For seniors who do not participate on a varsity sports team we are proposing the following criteria:
Students must:
- Pass physical education their junior year with a “B” or above average.
- Pass the Physical Fitness Proficiency test.
- Appear before a screening committee of the Athletic Director, and at least one physical education teacher.
- Students must participate in the activity for a minimum of 10 hours per week (equivalent to a varsity practice/game schedule).
Students will submit a form containing the following information to the Athletic Director: (This information will be presented prior to the start of each sports season)
- The name of the activity they are participating in.
- The name of the individual (coach/instructor), who will be acting as the contact person to the school representative.
- Provide the school with the address, telephone number of the site where the activity will take place.
Students will understand and agree to the following:
- Participation in the activity must be for a minimum of 10 hours per week.
- They will keep a portfolio. In this portfolio they will keep a log of the activities participated in, days of the week, and hours per day.
- Obtain the signature of the contact person at the end of each week verifying the week’s participation in the program.
- Meet with the student’s physical education teacher periodically (no less than every 2 weeks) to submit and review the hours that have been logged.
- Failure to meet these criteria will result in the suspension of the exemption privilege. Students will be expected to return to their scheduled physical education class
