The District, which serves approximately 1,500
students, consists of three schools on two campuses: the
Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street School, which accommodates
students in grades K-5; the Blind Brook Middle School, which
is home to students in grades 6-8, and the Blind Brook High
School for students in grades 9-12. The Middle School and
High School share a campus and some facilities. Class
sizes are small, averaging between 20-25 students and classified
students receive a range of services in district. The
District also houses a BOCES program for hard-of-hearing
students who attend regular education classes along with
Blind Brook students.
- Blind Brook's history of excellence dates back to the eighties when the school district was first recognized by the US Department of Education as one of the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.
- The District has been a member of the Tri-States Consortium since 1995. This consortium is a group of high performing
schools in the New York metropolitan area that work together
to improve their performance by sharing exemplary programs
and assessing each other’s instructional practices.
- Blind Brook students consistently outperform their peers
in suburban, public, and independent schools on standardized
tests administered by New York State, the College Board,
and the Educational Records Bureau.
- The March 2006 issue of Westchester Magazine ranked Blind Brook in the top quartile for best schools in Westchester County, based on SAT scores, academic challenge, advanced placement class participation, percent of graduates attending 4 year colleges, and class size. Blind Brook has maintained its high standing each year this list is published, and in 2001 was ranked in the “Top Ten in Westchester.”
- In 2009, US News & World Report ranked Blind Brook as one of the top 100 high schools using a three-step analysis based on a formula produced in collaboration with School Evaluation Services, a K-12 data research and analysis business run by Standard & Poor's. The school was evaluated based on how well students perform on state tests, how well disadvantaged students perform and how successfully the school provides college-level coursework.
- As reported in our annual high school profile, nearly 100% of graduating seniors go on to post secondary
education, many at the nation’s most prestigious
colleges and universities.
Voices of recent graduates describe
their experiences in Blind Brook:
“After being in college for several months, high
school can seem worlds away – especially a small
school like Blind Brook High School with its carpeted halls
and open classroom structure. Yet it is hard for me to
think of myself now without also recalling the tremendous
influence my high school has had on me…”
“Blind Brook provided me with some wonderful opportunities in addition
to the guidance needed to help me make use of these opportunities…”
“I left Blind Brook with a positive feeling about my years spent
there. There is little more that could have been done to point me in the right
direction…”
"Blind Brook and the entire district is exceptional...
it is one of the top school districts in the area and anyone
who is lucky enough to attend this amazing school will
take with them a lifetime of intellect and achievement. It
prepares you for all aspects of life.... it is truly the
greatest educational system and I would beyond highly recommend
this district to all families!”
