CINCO de MAYO

Our third grade students have been participating in a Flamenco Residency Program.  This is the second year of the Flamenco Residency Program at BMP Ridge Street with the sponsoring dance company, Lotus Music and Dance, and our students have been under the instruction of Sol Koeraus.

This year on Cinco de Mayo – May 5, 2009 – we are pleased to present our third grade flamenco dancers in their first dance recital!  Our third grade classes are paired up and have been practicing for the entire month of April.  Each set of classes is learning a different dance comprising all the elements of flamenco dancing---the singing, palmas (hand-clapping) and of course, the dance.  Below are a few pictures from the event!

Our Third Graders celebrated Chinese New Year...

The Year of the Ox!

The Year of the Ox is generally regarded

as a year of stability and growth,

where patience and diligence pay off.

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

The Ridge Street School welcomed author/poet/artist Douglas Florian to our school during our Annual Book Fair. Mr. Florian shared his life as a writer and illustrator with us (and we even got to take a sneak peek at his new book, Dinothesaurus, coming out in March!)

PAJAMA DAY WAS A SUCCESS!

Thanks to all of you we donated 630 pajamas and 297 books to the Pajama Program!

Special Thanks to Ms. Blumstein, Mrs. G. Fisher, and the RSS Student Council for organizing this event!
