Athletic Start Dates/Future Tryout Start Dates

Winter Dates 2024

Varsity & JV Sports begin on November 18th

All Modified Sports Begin on December 2nd (Gr. 7 & 8 only)

Varsity teams will be selected first. Once the Varsity team is posted, student-athletes who did not make the Varsity level are eligible to continue to try out for JV - on the remaining date(s) of JV tryouts. Please make sure you are aware of all mandatory tryout dates. 

• Varsity teams - competitive by definition and design, require a firm time commitment by both coaches and team members. All selected players are expected and required to be in attendance at all practices and games.
• Junior Varsity- programs are more developmental and will prepare the team members for potential future participation on the varsity level; they will often have larger rosters.
• Middle school modified programs-  defined by the state to be both instructional and inclusive; this is accomplished by altering game rules to allow greater participation.

As stated in our handbook: It is required that athletes attend ALL the days of tryouts and ALL subsequent practices to be considered for a team with no exceptions. If there is a conflict, please contact the Director of Physical Education, Health Education, and Interscholastic Athletics, Ms. Kimberly Saxton, and all conflicts will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please note that family vacations are not viable excuses for missing tryout sessions.  

Athletes must be present and punctual for all scheduled tryouts, practices, and games in order to participate on an athletic team.  

      Exceptions are limited to:

            a. Sickness

            b. Emergency, (not routine) appointments (doctor, dental, court appearances)

            c. Funerals/Bereavement/Religious Observance 

            d. Special exams or tests

            e. College visits

            f. Academic sessions or tutorial sessions 

Please check the website for a listing of all contact/information and emails for coaches. The coach must be notified via email prior to these excused absences and documentation is provided as well.  In a rare, extenuating circumstance, there may be an opportunity for an alternate tryout.  

Team-specific rules and consequences shall apply to athletes who miss practices or games without prior approval from their Coach.  However, the third time this occurs, the athlete will be DISMISSED from the team.
