Blind Brook - Middle School/High School Chillers

Dear Members of the Blind Brook Community,

As you may be aware, several of the chillers that have managed the air conditioning at the Middle School and High School have not been functioning properly. The cost of replacement units was included in the bond that was passed in October 2024.

However, due to the length of time to obtain the necessary approvals from the state and acquire the new units, an emergency action was taken by the Board of Education earlier this year to put in place a temporary chiller at the MS/HS. That unit is scheduled to arrive next week.

I was just informed that an additional chiller for the building is now not functioning. While this does not mean that there is no air conditioning in the building, the ability to cool many of our rooms to the temperature that we would like has been hampered. There are still rooms and spaces that are air conditioned and our Facilities Department is providing fans for rooms that need them. No students are in conditions that would be considered dangerous or harmful.

The temporary chiller should be in place early next week. Until that time we will continue to monitor room conditions and make adjustments as necessary.

Sincerely,

Dr. Colin M. Byrne
