Superintendent's Message
Dear Families and Friends of Blind Brook,
As the crisp fall air settles in and the vibrant colors of autumn begin to show around our campus, there is a wonderful energy throughout our school community. Octobers at Blind Brook are always a special time, full of momentum, pride, and shared tradition. I am excited to share a few updates on the great things happening across our district.
Both of our campuses have been full of spirit over the past few weeks, showering our fall student-athletes with Trojan pride during Spirit Week and our pep rally. While the majority of our Homecoming festivities took place last week, I want to take this opportunity to invite you to support our Varsity Football and Cheer teams next Saturday, October 10th at 1:00 p.m. in our stadium.
I am also pleased to follow up on my correspondence from the summer regarding the DEC bore testing. The results came back showing no signs of soil contamination in the tested areas on our campus. We anticipate future community newsletters from the DEC as they continue and finalize their work in our area.
On a note regarding student safety, I would like to inform our families and community members that the Board of Education will hold a second reading at our next meeting on a policy amendment expanding the prohibition of unauthorized motorized vehicles on campus to include e-bikes and e-scooters. As a reminder, individuals under the age of 16 are not legally permitted to operate e-bikes or e-scooters. For students legally operating an electric vehicle for transportation to school, we ask that they dismount and walk the vehicle once they enter district property. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our grounds safe.
I want to extend a huge thank you to the PTA for creating and launching the Blind Brook New Family Buddy Program, which has already done an incredible job welcoming new families to our school community. By thoughtfully matching incoming families with volunteers across BMPRSS, BBMS, and BBHS based on grade levels, languages, neighborhood proximity, and shared interests, we have made a meaningful impact, already connecting 15 families through personalized introductions and thoughtful guides. The enthusiastic response from our community, with more volunteer families than new families stepping up, is a testament to the warmth of Rye Brook and the brilliant groundwork laid by the PTA. For anyone interested in getting paired or reaching out, the program remains open at bbfamilybuddyprogram@gmail.com
We are looking forward to the months ahead and celebrating our students' ongoing success. We have already honored seven National Merit Scholars this year, and we look forward to sharing many more accolades as the year progresses.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our schools and learning community.
See you around campus,
Dr. Brian Alm
