Superintendent's Message

Dear Families and Friends of Blind Brook,

Greetings! As we move closer to finishing up a phenomenal school year, I am writing with a few updates and an expression of gratitude for all of the tremendous community support of our students. Great things are happening at Blind Brook!

It has been quite a season of celebrations, awards, and honors. Highlights include a remarkable fifty senior awards, an incredible senior athletic banquet, Honors Shapers Oscars Night, Prom, musical performances, Science Research Symposium, Creaticon, Celebration of Learning (Senior Options), RSS Travel Around the World, First Grade Musical, and Fifth Grade Night of Music. The list goes on and on! We encourage you to see photos and details of each event on our website and social media.

This week we held our annual Celebration of Teaching where we honored eight tenure recipients, seventeen staff retirees, and Simon Riley, our first Senior Ex-Officio board member, who will be attending Princeton in the fall. It was a wonderful evening filled with words of reminiscence, purpose, and inspiration. Please join me in congratulating all of our retirees, particularly Mark Greenwald, High School Principal, who will be retiring after a remarkable 41 years of service to education.

Next week we look forward to honoring our Graduating Seniors, and our fifth and eighth graders who are moving up. Rye Brook will be taking over SUNY Purchase next Wednesday! We are grateful for their partnership and for being such great neighbors.

I am pleased to announce that the Board of Education enlisted the help of a food service consultant and will be re-bidding our food service vendor to restore the district participation in the Federal School Lunch Program for K-12. The district last participated in 2019. This will allow for greater oversight, accountability, and assurances that our students have access to the most high quality, nutritious food available. More detail will be shared in the near future by Laurie Baum, our Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Facilities, and James Bigley, HMB consultant.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful PTA for their generous support this year. I am amazed by the volunteerism, programming, and extra opportunities this partnership provides to our students. While there are too many items to list, we are particularly grateful for the recent, high-impact Field Day brought back to Ridge Street School this week. Our kids were absolutely ecstatic!

As a reminder, school is closed on Friday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth. This federal holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and offers our community an important opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, freedom, and ongoing journey toward equality.

Thank you once again for your continued support of our students, our teaching faculty, and staff. I wish everyone a productive, restorative summer, and we’ll see you around campus in the fall.
