Greetings & Retirement Announcement

Dear Blind Brook Families and Friends,

Please take the time to read and appreciate the retirement message from High School Principal Mark Greenwald below.

As we celebrate Mark’s extraordinary career and the steady, caring leadership he has given Blind Brook for so many years, please know that we will move promptly and thoughtfully to begin the process of selecting our next high school principal. We are committed to a thorough and inclusive search that honors the strong foundation Mark has collaboratively built with our faculty, students, and families, and we will share more details soon. For now, I hope you will join me in thanking Mark for everything he has meant to our students and community and in wishing him the very best in his well-earned retirement.

Warm Regards,

A Message to the Blind Brook Community

To the Blind Brook Community,

As this school year unfolds, I have spent some time reflecting on my journey at Blind Brook and on the timing of an important personal decision I would like to share. I will be retiring from my role as Principal of Blind Brook High School effective July 1, 2026, bringing to a close a chapter that has meant more to me than I can easily put into words.

This year marks my 40th year in education, including 31 wonderful years in the Blind Brook School District. I joined the Blind Brook school community in 1995 as a Social Studies teacher, and over time, had the opportunity to serve as Department Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and most recently, Principal. Each role allowed me to grow, to learn, and most importantly, to work with extraordinary people.

Throughout my time here, I have had the privilege of working alongside talented educators and collaborating with dedicated administrators, superintendents, and Board members. I am deeply grateful to the thousands of students I have taught and to the families who trusted me to care for, support, and educate their children. That sense of gratitude extends beyond my professional life, as Blind Brook has also played a deeply personal role for my family.

More than 30 years ago, my wife, Stephanie, and I chose Rye Brook as the place to raise our family. Both of our daughters, Melanie and Chloe, attended Blind Brook schools from elementary through high school. Along the way, I even had the unique (and unforgettable) experience of teaching my older daughter in middle school, along with the children of many close friends.

As I look ahead to the end of this school year, I do so with tremendous gratitude. Blind Brook has shaped me not only as an educator, but also as a husband, a father, and a member of this community. While Blind Brook High School will no longer be my workplace, Blind Brook will always be my home—a place filled with friendships, memories, and people I care deeply about.

Thank you to the administration for trusting me with the opportunity to lead the high school, and thank you to the faculty, parents, and students for your support over the years. Blind Brook is a truly special place—an exceptional community and a wonderful school district—and I am proud to have played a small part in its story.

With gratitude,
Mark Greenwald

School Board Recognition - October 2025

This is a time to promote awareness and understanding of the important work performed by local school boards. Public schools form the bedrock of our communities and our country. Democracy thrives with educated citizens capable of critical thinking and civil discourse. And it is our local school boards who are ultimately responsible for student success.

It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and these volunteers devote countless hours to making sure our schools are helping every child learn; they make the tough decisions and spend many hours studying education issues and regulations in order to provide the kind of leadership our community expects.

School board members give the Blind Brook community a voice in education decision-making. Even though we make a special effort to show our appreciation in October, their contribution is a year-round commitment.

The members serving our district are as follows:

Jeffrey Mensch, President

Correy Stephenson, Vice President

Danny Fung, Member

Katherine Hallissy Ayala, Member

Samantha Smith, Member

Please give special recognition to our new Student Ex-Officio Board Members:

Simon Riley, Senior

Iris Chen, Junior
