Message from the Superintendent - Back to School
Dear Blind Brook Students and Families,
It’s been a wonderful start to the school year! Last week our eager educators arrived for two days of preparation and professional learning. They were further energized by smiling faces at the MS/HS and ‘cuteness overload’ at RSS as students arrived on Tuesday. With three days of learning under our belts, our learning community is off to a thriving start.
As we start the new school year together, I would like to highlight the ongoing efforts of both the PTA and the Friends of Blind Brook Foundation. I had the pleasure of meeting with the leadership of both groups this summer, and I am truly excited about their ideas for this year. Please consider lending a helping hand to both groups. For the PTA, all of the contact information is contained in their summer newsletter. They’ll be counting on our community’s support, through time, fundraising, and membership. Imagine if we reached 100% participation this year!
Please allow me to share a little more with you about the FBBF, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Blind Brook community. Established in partnership with the Blind Brook-Rye UFSD, FBBF provides financial support and resources to strengthen athletic and arts programs, while representing and advancing the interests of the entire district. For more information please visit this link or email friendsofbbfund@gmail.com. We are currently looking for additional parent volunteers from all grades to join our “committee” (see the linked flyer).
This week most of our fall sports began and we were excited to see students on the newly refurbished Reed field (turf field, track, and stadium). We are still putting on finishing touches as we wait for our new backstop nets and protective crossover covers for the track to arrive. In the meantime, we’ve put some creative temporary measures in place, and hope to have them for Homecoming beginning on September 19th. Greg Warren, our new Athletic Director will send out a flyer with all of the details in the near future.
I look forward to greeting you next week at one of the flurry of Back to School Nights at RSS and BBHS. I enjoyed talking with many parents last night at the BBMS event. The energy, support, and enthusiasm from families, together with our world class educators, is truly inspiring!
See you around campus!

School Board Recognition - October 2025
This is a time to promote awareness and understanding of the important work performed by local school boards. Public schools form the bedrock of our communities and our country. Democracy thrives with educated citizens capable of critical thinking and civil discourse. And it is our local school boards who are ultimately responsible for student success.
It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and these volunteers devote countless hours to making sure our schools are helping every child learn; they make the tough decisions and spend many hours studying education issues and regulations in order to provide the kind of leadership our community expects.
School board members give the Blind Brook community a voice in education decision-making. Even though we make a special effort to show our appreciation in October, their contribution is a year-round commitment.
The members serving our district are as follows:
Jeffrey Mensch, President
Correy Stephenson, Vice President
Danny Fung, Member
Katherine Hallissy Ayala, Member
Samantha Smith, Member
Please give special recognition to our new Student Ex-Officio Board Members:
Simon Riley, Senior
Iris Chen, Junior
