ATTENDANCE
State Education Law permits legal absences or tardiness only for the following reasons:
- Sickness or death in the family;
- Impassable roads or weather, making travel unsafe;
- Religious observance;
- Sickness requiring attendance at a medical clinic;
- Approved school-sponsored trips;
- Quarantine; and
- Requires court appearances.
Absence or tardiness for any other reason is considered illegal. Parents are requested to advise the school by telephone when a child is absent. A written excuse, signed by the parent, is necessary when the student returns to school from an absence or tardiness.
Parents should emphasize the harmful effects of frequent absence or tardiness. Along with developing careless work habits, loss of instructional time occurs. Parents are urged to give this matter serious attention.
